Public Works Laborer (full-time)

The Village of Volo is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Laborer within the Village’s Public Works Department.

This is a crew worker position, performing non-skilled and limited semi-skilled labor.  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be able to perform routine labor tasks in order to maintain and repair Village streets, rights-of-way, buildings, grounds, landscaping, equipment, and water utilities.

The starting salary for this position is $41,600 with an excellent benefits package.  A minimum level of experience in manual labor work and in the operation of light and medium equipment is required; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Applicants must possess a valid Illinois Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement or be able to obtain one within three (3) months of hire.

Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable Coordinator (full-time)

The Village of Volo is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time (32 hours per week) AR/AP Coordinator.  The AR/AP Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Village’s utility billing and accounts payable activities.  Essential job functions include:

  • Prepare monthly utility bills
  • Prepare shut-off notices and follow-up on past due accounts
  • Create new accounts and process final readings
  • Maintain utility billing customer database
  • Coordinate meter readings and shut-offs with the Public Works Department
  • Respond to resident inquiries regarding water and garbage service, charges, and collections
  • Prepare statistical and budgetary reports
  • Prepare bi-monthly bill reports for approval by the Village Board
  • Enter vendor invoices and prepare vendor payments
  • Maintain vendor database
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

The position requires a dependable, self-motivated individual who is organized and flexible; pays attention to detail, deadlines, and procedures; and has the ability to handle and prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously.  The position requires good communication skills and excellent customer service skills.

Must have one (1) year progressively responsible accounting experience and be proficient in data entry and Microsoft Excel and Word. Previous experience with accounting software platforms a plus. 

The work schedule is Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, as well as additional hours 4 – 6 days each month for specific, date-driven, utility billing and accounts payable functions.  The starting salary for this position is $41,600 +/- DOQ with an excellent benefits package.

Customer Service Representative (part-time)

The Village of Volo is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time Customer Service Representative.  Customer Service Representatives provide front counter and phone support and perform a variety of administrative duties as assigned, including data entry and processing, recordkeeping and reporting, and scanning and filing documents.

The position requires a dependable, self-motivated individual who is organized and flexible; pays attention to detail, deadlines, and procedures; and has the ability to handle and prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously.  The position requires good communication skills and excellent customer service skills.

Must be experienced with computers (Microsoft Word and Excel) and possess some data entry experience.  Previous work in an office environment is a plus.

Candidates must be willing to work 16 - 24 hours per week, Monday - Friday between 7:45 am - 4:15 pm.  Additional hours may be required for schedule coverage.  The hourly rate for this non-benefit position is $16.00 - $18.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.  Employees consistently and continuously working more than 20 hours per week may be eligible for IMRF.
